Welcome to Diesel Technology, also called Medium/Heavy-Duty Truck
We are in for an interesting year. The demand for diesel technicians is still very strong. Hopefully we will be able to provide hands on instruction for the whole year. That said, I can't predict how the year will unfold.
We will be using google classroom for some assignments and daily logs. It will be in place in case we are forced to go virtual.

Come to Class Ready to Work

All of the Ed Tech programs look at coming to class the same as going to work. Program dress standards may vary, but fall into standards industry expects. Students in Diesel Technology are no different. A tee shirt is fine as long as it has sleeves and does not have inappropriate logos, sayings or graphics. Jeans are also good as long as they do not have holes and hang from the waist. I really do not what to see underwear. Rope can be provided in lieu of a belt. Shorts are not allowed. Students need appropriate footwear. Tennis shoes or leather shoes or boots are fine. No sandals, slippers or bare feet allowed. Students can keep a change of work clothes, shop coat, coveralls, etc. in their locker to change into for class.
Students are to wear their safety glasses in the shop at all times. I have provided a pair to every student. I encourage them to leave them in their lockers here at the Ed Tech Center.
The last big concern is that students need to be here. Avoid scheduling appointments and vacations during school time. The actual class times tend to be somewhat shorter this year and every day will be important. I do understand a student being sick or something may come up. If students are to be absent, they are to call in before class starts. Please refer to the hand book for the attendance policy and procedures for extended illnesses.

Diesel Technology Class Rules
Attendance is very important. You need to be here and be on time. Poor attendance and tardies will affect your grade and work-based learning opportunities. Fill out Attendance Form and complete the Daily Log when absent.
You must call in if you are going to be absent. If you know ahead of time (e.g., doctor’s appointment), let us know. Tell Mr. Bammer and Mr. Drake as well as putting it on the calendar.
Safety is of the utmost concern. Unsafe behavior will not be tolerated. Safety glasses are required at all times in shop situations. Dark or tinted safety glasses are not allowed. Clear glasses only. Unsafe acts or attitudes will affect your daily grade. Writing assignments or retraining will be assigned for violations. Repeat violations may result in detention or suspension.
Come to class prepared to work. Bring a change of clothes or coveralls as necessary. Dress appropriately. Pants with holes or rips are not allowed and pants are pulled up above the hips. Rope will be provided for use as a belt or suspenders. No shorts or sandals are allowed in class. Boots or shoes must be laced up. Wear shirts with sleeves. Follow the school dress code. Bring a pencil and your safety glasses. A locker is provided to keep these items in.
Treat each other with respect. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. If something happens that I don’t see, I need to know.
Treat the projects, tools, and the shop with respect. The projects many times belong to someone. The shop and tools are our class. Without these, we cannot operate to the best of our abilities.
Stay within our class area. Anyone leaving for the lockers or bathroom must ask permission first from Mr. Bammer or Mr. Drake. You must sign out and take a hall pass with you. No ‘roaming’ outside. No more than two students out of class at one time and take a “hard hat” hall pass.
Eat breakfast or lunch before coming to class. Food and drink in the shop can be a health hazard as well as making a mess. Food or drink is not allowed in the computer lab.
Cleanup after yourselves. This makes for a safe work environment. Help others as needed. If you see something that can be picked up to make an area safer, do it. Tools are to be signed in and out. All tools must be in and clean at the end of each class.

Daily Logs
This is an assignment in google classroom. Complete your daily logs online each day, after cleanup, but before you leave. This is a record of the tasks you perform that day and will be graded. Be very descriptive. Everyone's daily log entry will be put into a single document that I will grade from, so last name and the date you are reporting for must be accurate. Your daily log is worth 40% of your grade.
Daily scores include:
Work ethic, attitude, staying on task Staying on task Working well with others Following directions Caring about the quality of your work Completing assignments Cleanup Work area Floors swept and spills cleaned up |
Unsafe or unprofessional practices deductions
Not wearing safety glasses Safety violations Leaving messes, tools or parts out in your work area Horseplay of any type Swearing Tardy – Minus 3 points Absences I want you to call in. If you call in you will receive 2 points for that day. If a parent calls in for you, you’ll receive a zero for the day. If you do not call in you will receive -10 points for that day. This is your ‘time card’. If you don’t complete it, you don’t get ‘paid’. |
