WebQuest Teacher/Design Information
Learners
11th and 12th Graders in a Diesel Technology program
Educational Goals
Students will identify electrical components necessary to complete circuits. Students will use proper schematic symbols to layout a wiring diagram. Students will use Ohm’s Law to identify correct sizing of components. Students will itemize and calculate a customer estimate. Students will use web resources and Excel to accomplish project.
Standards
NATEF Standards V.A.1 and assumed theory instruction
States' Career Cluster Initiative Essential Knowledge and Skill Statements ESS01-4 and ESS10
TDL Foundation Skills TRC01.01, TRC02.01, TRC02.02, TRC02.04, TRC02.07, TRC03.01, TRC03.02, TRC03.03, TRC04.03, TRC04.06, TRC4.09
Process
Students will layout a schematic to install the given lighting circuits on a truck. Using a given truck, they will measure and determine light, switch, fuse placement and lengths of wire required. Using wattage of lighting in their circuits, students will determine proper wire sizing. Wattages and wire sizing information will be obtained web sites as well as prices of components.
